What is SSP?

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a safe and gentle way to calm the nervous system and stimulate the vagus nerve in the comfort of your own home.

It is based on decades of research by Dr Stephen Porges and Polyvagal Theory.  SSP uses music to stimulate the vagus nerve and help balance the autonomic nervous system. It is a passive bottom-up approach to repatterning the nervous system, that can help clients achieve greater success with other interventions to rewire the brain and nervous system.

The five hours of music used for Safe and Sound Protocol is modulated to a frequency that embodies safety and trust to the human nervous system. This in turn helps to bring the autonomic nervous system into a greater state of balance, which can facilitate healing in many areas. With improved regulation of the autonomic nervous system, clients often notice positive physical, emotional and mental changes from simply listening to the modulated music.

One of the benefits of a passive bottom-up approach is that it requires very little of the client. Many of the top-down approaches to rewiring the brain and nervous system require a lot of effort on a daily, continuous basis. A lot of our clients share that it’s a relief to be able to do something that is easy and does not require a lot of energy or effort. Many clients have also reported a greater capacity to use their top-down, brain retraining tools after completing SSP.
